Geometric Gateway

Spring 2024

This is a group project to remodel a classroom in the SDSU ART North Building with no structural or window/door changes. Some important design goals were to create a collaborative environment in the classroom, have a sense of community, and create a bright environment. To facilitate this, the design includes flexible seating arrangements that allow for group work and designated collaborative spaces.

Additionally, our concept was to integrate a geometric theme by designing hexagon-shaped tables, a custom partition wall, and rectangular ceiling lights, which enhances the aesthetic appeal of the classroom while also contributing to a cohesive design and a conducive atmosphere for collaboration.

Our main color palette uses coral, pastel yellow, and a muted purple which helps to contrast different functions of the space where the classroom seating is darker to help students focus while the walls are lighter by the windows and have a lighter tone with the group study.

I collaborated with my partner on conceptual and schematic design, space planning, design development, color palette, mood and material boards. In addition, I contributed the following to this project:

  • Developed all 2D and 3D concept designs and renderings

  • Responsible for all construction documentation

  • Final selection of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E), also sourced materials, finishes

  • Selected and arranged objects on desks, shelves and people in rendering to convey the look, feel and function of the space

  • Designed the cut-out wall

  • Designed the drop-down hexagon bases for the pendant ceiling lights which enhances the existing structural concrete ceiling beam pattern

  • Designed custom square lighting fixtures

  • Furniture designs—hexagon tables, triangle chairs
