Earthquake Installation
Dec. 2023
In this project, students were asked to create a gallery exhibition for the SDSU art gallery themed around a natural phenomenon of their choosing.
The natural phenomenon chosen for this concept is earthquakes. Earthquakes are caused by sudden ground shaking through built-up energy. Masses of rock strain against one another and eventually fracture. Earthquakes are strongest along fault lines which are the fractures between blocks of rock.
This concept is illustrated with level changes and cracks in the stone tables, seating, and flooring. The cracks light up with solar at night to ensure no one trips and illuminate the courtyard for students who must stay late.
